Fabio is a professor at the Instituto do Mar of the Federal University of São Paulo, where he coordinates the Marine Ecology and Conservation Laboratory. He is also a member of the Postgraduate Programme in Biodiversity and Marine and Coastal Ecology (PPGBEMC). Biologist with a Master’s and PhD in Zoology.
Prof. Motta has participated in several research projects applied to marine conservation and fisheries management, including community outreach initiatives. He worked in the third sector (NGOs) for almost a decade coordinating marine conservation projects and is still collaborating with some Brazilian organisations.
His research focuses on marine protected area management science, shark and ray biology, ichthyology and marine conservation. He is currently involved in projects monitoring biophysical and social indicators of a network of marine protected areas off the coast of the State of São Paulo – Brazil.
