Sergio Martínez Alonso

My name is Sergio Martínez, I am 24 years old and I am originally from the city of Astorga (León, Spain). My interest in marine sciences started when I was very young because, although I enjoyed learning about different subjects such as mythology or dinosaurs, the ocean and the sea were always my favourite ones. Thanks to various books and documentaries my interest grew and I finally entered the University of Vigo where I studied and graduated as an oceanographer in 2016.

After completing my studies my interest lay in ecology, especially in the field of marine pollution, and after working on it for a few months I realised that maybe I was wrong, so I focused my attention on the second option, fisheries sciences.

Thanks to this I was focusing more on it and I started my studies of Master in Sustainable Fisheries Management at the University of Alicante in 2021, master that I am still studying today and thanks to which I am doing my internship at EqualSea Lab.

My participation in this lab will focus on studying the volume and economic impact of illegal, unregulated and unregulated (IUU Fisheries) focused on the coasts of Galicia.
