IHH is a global study coordinated by FAO, WorldFish and Duke University. IHH aims to highlight the role that small-scale fisheries (SSF) play in achieving sustainable development goals. Specifically, the purpose of IHH was to quantify the contributions of SSF to the three dimensions of sustainable development (social, economic and environmental), including aspects related to nutrition and governance.
Researchers from the universities of Vigo, Santiago de Compostela, Alicante and Oviedo have collaborated to carry out the case study in Spain. The team collected and analyzed data from different coastal regions to understand the contribution of artisanal fishing to the environment, the socio-economy and the well-being of their communities.
