OURSEAS (Unveiling social-ecological interactions for building more resilient coastal marine systems) aims to unveil whether and how social-ecological vulnerability and social equity in conservation are interrelated. Within the current international objective of protecting 30% of the oceans by 2030, considering equity when designing and implementing conservation measures is essential to reduce their impact on already vulnerable groups and foster positive ecological outcomes. However, little is known about how vulnerability and equity in conservation are related. By using an interdisciplinary approach, this research will contribute novel insights to a global concern explicitly integrated within global agendas such as the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals.
