ECOSER 2.0

This project aims to assess how marine protected areas (MPAs) contribute to human-well being. Funded by Fundación Biodiversidad (Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain)

In order to achieve its objectives, ECOSER 2.0 will develop several actions to analyse the links between ecological, social and institutional components present in MPAs, which will make it possible to identify how the processes in which ecosystem services take part develop in an integrated way.

The project will try to answer questions such as how the services are provided by the species present in these areas, how they are provided to direct and indirect beneficiaries and how they are managed by public institutions.

With this data it will be possible to identify the environmental (species abundance), economic (yield), social (employment) and institutional (management systems) factors that determine the degree of effectiveness of MPAs, with a special emphasis on the effects of climate change and marine pollution.

ECOSER 2.0 is developed with the collaboration of the Fundación Biodiversidad (Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge-Government of Spain), through the Pleamar Programme, co-funded by the FEMP“.
